First Church Service!

August 26, 2007

On August 26th, Restoration Gateway held it’s first church service.  The project now has 46 native Ugandans working for them in various capacities.  The workers gather at 7am daily to worship Jesus before they start their day.

Short Update From Tim-

August 24, 2007

The roads here have never been great, but they have severely deteriorated with the heavy, heavy rains we’ve been having.  The road from Karuma to the land  has gotten worse, especially since they started clearing for the new road.

Thankfully the rains have let up and we have had amazingly pleasant days with temps in the 70’s and sunshine.  Things continue to progress well here, and we are getting better at making bricks.  And we’re actually learning how to use them.

Slow but steady progress is being made on our road.

We had 10 workers make decisions for Christ after devotions this morning- amazing to see God move in such awesome ways.  Just pray we will not get in the way. We have many people coming and going over the next few weeks so doubt I will be communicating much.  Thanks for your prayers and interest.

Love,  Tim

RG Update From Antioch Short-Term Team

Hey friends!
I’m back from Uganda! The trip was amazing and I hope that you get a chance to see the pictures!

If you want to see all of them, you can view my web album by clicking here.

The Container where the McCall’s live (upstairs) at Restoration Gateway (500 acres of land).  6 of our girls stayed downstairs and it was not too bad.

So far they’ve hired 46 workers on the land and they have Bible devotions every morning led by George, a Ugandan.

Our team hiked to the edge of the land of Restoration Gateway b/c it overlooks the Nile river.

They now have a brick machine on the land so they can make their own bricks.

We went to a nearby orphanage one day and played games and told Bible stories with the kids. They were so joyful and it made you appreciate the simplicity of life!

We worshipped at the top of Murchison Falls on the Nile. Amazing.

The End!

Update From Tim

August 6, 2007

We have received the brick making equipment and are beginning to figure it out as far as the best mix for the bricks. They are currently working on the road which had gotten almost impassable and will bring a red topped road from Karuma to the land and onto the land for another 4 kilometers. 8 meters wide with 6 meters of marrum driving surface. Should be nice.

We have completed the container system and it is very nice.  We are anxious for you to see it. It’s been such a blessing.  We don’t have to shower in public now, which Janice appreciates.

You never have to ask whether you are needed or wanted here. There will be work here for you for years and years to come.

We have completed both pole buildings and the teams are staying in one and the other has the brick making equipment. We will use the container that the brick maker came in as storage for the movable equipment and build more storage space around it with the bricks.

We have put the flood lights out on poles to keep from attracting so many bugs around the container at night. But the porch is fully screened now which is nice. We have built a separate kitchen in the first pole building for the teams, complete with running water. The two showers and American style toilets have concrete stepping stones to them. We have restored five huts near the container, one is a cook house for the workers, three will sleep 10 people and have concrete floors and mosquito nets. Those that have stayed in them say they prefer them to the container.

We now have 46 employees. We now have a piggery. We have a cabbage patch that is ready to harvest. We have planted 30 trees each of avocados, mangos, tangerine, oranges, and passion fruit. Many eucalyptus trees have been planted to act as wind breaks and many many flowers.  As you know you can watch things grow out here.

We have 14 on a team from ACC here now and 11 from the church plant in Seattle so it is indeed nonstop bop out here.

God continues to do more than we can ask think or imagine and it has been the greatest experience of my life in the midst of many challenges. Janice has fallen in love with the people and land as well, even though she misses her family and friends in America.

You need to come taste and see- the Lord is good!
